Glenn Kohler brings to personal training qualities unmatched by
any trainer or "fitness guru" I've ever met or even heard of. Here are just a few:
• Glenn's attitude towards fitness is one of yogic calm and focus. There is none of the bravado stereo-typically associated with fitness trainers. Glenn sees mental stress and pain for its own sake as antithetical to developing a fit body. In fact, during our very first workout, Glenn explained that he doesn't espouse the "work to failure"/"take the pain"/"drill sergeant" mentality towards fitness. Rather, in the same way that many of his exercises---often created by Glenn and customized for each client---are based on positions from yoga, the workout environment he fosters is equally yogic: one in which calm, relaxation, and the release of stress are essential to focusing the mind on the workout itself. Working out with Glenn is like the best of yoga, aerobics, and weight training, but also so much more.
• A workout with Glenn is never boring and never the same thing twice in a row. He is always changing up routines to keep our sessions from hitting a rut, cycling in a vast array of exercises---including many that he invented---based on my current level of conditioning and ability. I really feel like every workout is customized and paced to keep me engaged and focused
.• Glenn has the almost preternatural ability to turn virtually any space into a gym. To best work with my schedule, I train with Glenn in my finished basement, a small room containing almost no fitness equipment. Bringing a few kettlebells and only a couple of additional pieces, Glenn has crafted many dozens of exercise circuits that utilize every aspect of the space, from the stairs to even the narrowest patch of floor. Glenn's knowledge and creativity have turned a seemingly limited space into an unfettered workout environment.
